Tie-Upp Aviation becomes the first flight training organisation in the world to achieve Toitū carbonzero certification.

Toitū certification

Toitū certification is recognized in 60 countries and means we are annually measuring, reducing and offsetting our organisation carbon footprint.

This is a very significant achievement for Tie-Upp Aviation, in our pursuit to be the lead player globally in sustainable, affordable and accessible pilot training.

Reaching this unique milestone further strengthens our resolve to create sustainable models for the future generations.

  • Tie-Upp Aviation has taken the lead initiative in reducing carbon footprints, noise footprints in recreational and commercial pilot training.

This certification and the official recognition from Toitū further strengthens our sustainability efforts for the future generations.

  • Toitū is an active verb that means “to sustain”.

  • Toitū carbonzero organisation certification is proof an organisation is positively contributing to the sustainability of our future through measuring, reducing and offsetting their carbon footprint. To achieve Toitū carbonzero certification, an organisation measures all operational greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions required under the international standard for carbon footprints, ISO 14064-1, including vehicles, business travel, fuel and electricity. The emissions are measured annually, and the inventory is independently verified to ensure it is accurate and complete. Once they have measured their footprint, the organisation must develop plans to continually manage and reduce their emissions. Each year, unavoidable emissions are offset through the purchase of quality carbon credits to achieve net zero emissions. The organisation must reduce emissions on a six-year cycle.

    1. Toitū carbonzero certification means our carbon footprint, emission reductions and offsets have been independently verified.

    2. Toitū Together: we are part of a like -minded community of over 400 organisations taking science -based action for a better environment. To date, programme members have reduced over 8.7 million tonnes of CO2e.

    3. Toitū carbonzero programme requirements meet and exceed international standards and best practice, including ISO 14064-1 and the GHG Protocol.

    4. Toitū carbonzero certification is currently available in 17 countries and the certification marks are recognised in over 60 countries, making it ideal for companies working in global supply chains or exporting products.

    5. Toitū carbonzero certification is accredited by the Joint

Accreditation System of Australia and New Zealand (JAS-ANZ)

and was the world’s first to be accredited under ISO 14065.

    6. Toitū Envirocare is accredited by the CDP (formerly Carbon Disclosure Project).

  • Tie-Upp Aviation have offset our 20/21 baseline emissions by purchasing 17 verified carbon credits from global renewable energy projects.

A carbon offset is a reduction or removal of emissions of carbon dioxide or other greenhouse gases made in order to compensate for emissions made elsewhere. Offsets are measured in tonnes of carbon dioxide-equivalent (CO2e). One ton of carbon offset represents the reduction or removal of one ton of carbon dioxide or its equivalent in other greenhouse gases.

It is vital we all reduce our emissions, but carbon offsets are also needed to slow the rate of emissions accumulating in our atmosphere. When you purchase a carbon credit to offset one tonne of CO2e that you’ve emitted, that purchase finances a project specifically designed to store, avoid or reduce GHG emissions – specifically a project that would otherwise not have happened (it’s additional to business as usual). In other words, each purchase helps keep the carbon project going.

  • Carbon credits are issued by an appropriate authority that has confirmed the project meets the requirements of their standard.   Examples of common requirements, or principles, of the standards include additionality, permanence, verification, and leakage. There are many carbon credit options out there, from all over the world, but they are not all created equal. Toitū apply a thorough set of principles to determine if a given project is real, reliable and meets our quality standards.

The Toitū carbonzero programme opts to publicly disclose each transaction on these registers ensuring the carbon credit operations are fully transparent and traceable. Toitū works with the Gold Standard Registry for managing and retiring credits and specific details of cancellation, including serial numbers, will be available on the external registry: https://registry.goldstandard.org/credit-blocks
